Mormon-opoly® -
LDS
Game Activities
There are many ways to play Mormon-opoly®. It is designed to be an LDS game that provides fun and enjoyment while also learning about church history, principles of the gospel and important locations. In addition to the
normal play in the instructions for this Mormon game, here are
some options for a variety of purposes,
occasions and lengths of play.
Additional Learning Variations
• History Memory – Read the
historical information on the back of the
deed when someone purchases the property.
If a player subsequently lands on that
property, rent is forgiven if they can
remember one of the historical facts no one
has recited yet.
• Scripture Scholars – When you land
on a property and buy it, read the scripture
reference if it has one. Discuss what
the scripture teaches. Reciting one of
these scriptures from memory is worth one
free pass to get out of Spirit Darkness.
• Where Am I? – In a game with
younger players, have each player tell where
a location can be found when they land on
it: Old World or New World.
• By the Book – For those properties
with scriptural references on the deeds, pay
particular attention to the books of
scripture referenced (Old Testament, New
Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine &
Covenants, Pearl of Great Price) when
someone buys each property. If you
subsequently land on the property after it
is owned, you must recite which book of
scripture refers to that property without
looking at the deed. You can be
forgiven rent the first time you land on
that property if you can correctly remember
the book of scripture. If you get it
wrong, double rent is due.
Shorter Versions of the Game
If you want to play a shorter version of
Mormon-opoly®, consider one of these three
LDS game options:
• Dealt a Hand: Before starting the
game, deeds are shuffled and four deeds are
dealt to each player. Players immediately
pay the bank the price of the property dealt
to them. Play then proceeds as in the
regular game. The time of play is one
hour. At the end of one hour, the player
with most chapels and stake centers wins.
• Instant Mormon-opoly® – Player
draws one property card and then can
purchase all properties of that color
group. Other players then do the same.
Chapels and stake centers may be immediately
purchased. Play then proceeds as in the
regular game. The time of play is one
hour. At the end of one hour, the player
with most chapels and stake centers wins.
• Rapid Construction – Another short
Mormon game version is to place chapels and stake centers
on individual properties, without owning all
properties of the same color group. The
time of play is one hour. At the end of one
hour, the player with the most chapels and
stake centers wins.
